Language: - This week we will use our knowledge of opinion vs fact, and persuasive writing to learn a bit more about debating

French Update Jan 23

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents
I hope you have had a nice Winter break with your family.
Our daily routine is drilling the vocabulary related to our daily activities. We are talking about activities at school or at home. Al Hamdulillah, students are gaining self confidence in speaking French during French class.
In class, we worked on our project” Une Fenêtre sur ma routine” and students did a great job overall.
We are working on the last activities related to the story “Un Jour Bizarre”: Écris l’histoire avec des mots différents and we will be doing our in-class play presentation next week Insha’a Allah.
Update:
  • Tuesday,   January 27, we are having the 3rd French test: spelling, Conjugation and vocabulary.
  • The spelling list for Tuesday is:
  1. alors 6.   et 11.  encore
  2. après  ca 7.   finalement
  3. en premier 8.  En deuxième
  4. cependant 9. A la fin
  5. puis   10.  maintenant
  • Conjugation of verbs aller, avoir and être at the present tense.
  • Vocabulary comprehension is related to vocabulary drilled daily in class.

Congratulations Grade 5's!!!

Salamun alaykum,

Congratulations to all the participants in the Polar Expressions National Student Poetry Contest!

We were all excited today to receive word today that 10 students from grade 5 have been selected to have  their poems published and will be entered into the final round of the writing contest. Masha Allah we're so proud of you and all the students who participated!

For students who are interested and up to the challenge I highly recommend that you share your other writing talents and enter into the Polar Expressions Short Story Writing Contest.

Deadlines for submission are February 27th (by mail) or March 4th (online).

IMPORTANT: Parents are requested to send me an updated copy of their email address to ensure we have the most up-to-date contact on file at school. If you prefer to send your contact via email you may reach me using my school email (available at the main office upon request).

Language:

  • Copies of finished autobiography chapters are required this week in class (starting tomorrow) to aid in our editing lessons. This will help the children to focus on improving their writing and editing skills, as well as reminding them about simple techniques to raise the level of their writing.


Reminder: All chapters of the autobiography project should be completed by the end of next week!!!


  • The students are working on writing a persuasive essay on the issue "Electronics should be allowed in elementary school".

Social Studies:

  • We have a field trip to the Parliament booked for February 10th. A permission form will be sent out soon. In the meantime, we are finishing up an episode of the "Canada: A People's History" program. The video will lead us into some of the political and legal changes that formed the country of Canada and laid the foundations of it's Government.

- الفهم والاستيعاب  ( الإجابة على الأسئلة)

- فهم معاني المفردات  الواردة في الدرس  وأضادها.

 - التعبير عن الصور بجمل مفيدة .  - ما الدرس الذي تعلمته من كل درس .

Jan 12 Update

Salamun alaykum,

Welcome back. In shaa Allah you all have had a restful and enjoyable holiday. Now it's time to get back into the "swing of things" and preparing for the next topics of the year. Below you will find our language homework for this week and some information about topics we will cover soon ( will be added in the next 24 hours in shaa Allah).

Topics of Learning:

Language: The class is learning about Persuasive Writing techniques. This will lead us into work related to persuasive essays, debating, speeches, advertising, and more!

Social Studies: The children are learning about the growth of Canada leading up to Confederation. Soon we will be learning more about the Government of Canada, which will prepare us for our trip to the Parliament in February and other activities.

Islamic Studies: Since we have returned we have been learning the battle of Khandaq. We have also spoken about qualities of good leaders and the Prophets of Islam.

Science Fair Info+Handbook

Assalamu Alaikum dear parents,


I hope you have had a restful winter break with your family.I have the pleasure  to inform you that this year Insha'a Allah grades 5 and 6  will be participate in the science fair that will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015

For these grades, the participation is mandatory as part of  work involved will be done in class and the project is will be evaluated. Students who wish to participate are required to work with a partner. Teachers Rania , Selma, Dina, Christopher  and myself are available to provide help when needed.

Student  are required to fill out the registration form and return it to their teacher  by the end of January. Students are also  given the timeline to help them manage their time.
